Day 15 – Thursday 16th May 2013
The first day of the last third of our adventure, following the end of the Italian Job event last night. We said our goodbyes to everyone as they left after breakfast, although some had made a very early start to make good progress up through Europe to get back home asap. A few others are going to the International Mini Meet that this year is being held at Mugello Race Circuit, where we were a few days ago, however, we have opted to stay for an extra two days in Rome to take in more of what Rome has to offer, and also to re-charge our batteries for a couple of days after the fun and games of the Italian Job and some of its rather early starts. After a leisurely breakfast, we took the hotel shuttle bus into Rome, which dropped us off nearby the Vatican. We walked from there into the shopping area, with Ian, AKA our tour guide, navigating brilliantly with the help of his phone! We did a few bits of shopping, and then found a McDonalds, so called in there for a drink and quick snack, not Ian’s favourite place in the World, wherever in the World he may be, but we all survived! A big plus was it was comfortable in there, whereas the weather was wet, overcast and decidedly humid at times. Afterwards, we continued walking and found the Trevi Fountain, and then continued to the Spanish Steps, then after finding out details about the open top city tour buses that we are planning to go on tomorrow, we hailed a taxi back to the hotel. Our taxi driver was a typical driver for Rome, late braking doesn’t even start to describe it, but we eventually arrived back just about still in one piece, even if our life expectancies may have been shortened by a heart attack or two along the way! After a couple of hours of R&R and then eating in the hotel bar, we crashed out after another tiring day!
